Heritage Open Weekend: 16-18th September
The church is open for the weekend when information. music and refreshments will be available- and we have some free events:
Friday 16th
@7.30pm: Concert by Axum Folk Band
Saturday 17th
@10.30am: Blessing of Animals – bring your pet along for a short blessing outside the church and join us for refreshments
@1pm – 1.45pm Music on the Organ by David Stannard
@3pm-5pm: Calligraphy activities for children (3 – 3.45pm) and adults (4 – 5pm), with a talk by a Northumbrian Scribe about the making of the Lindisfarne Gospels
Sunday 18th
@10.45am: Morning Service led by Revd Dr Trevor Jamison
@4pm: Sacred Space: the heritage of a space for community & worship’: a service led by Revd Ryan Sirmons
Throughout the weekend
- See our fine building and stained-glass windows, some by William Morris & Co
- Hear our wonderful organ, built by T.C. Lewis in 1893, rebuilt by Henry Willis & Sons in 1952, and now in the care of Harrison & Harrison, Durham
- Live music played by the church’s musicians
- ‘The church in 10 objects’, and children’s treasure trail
- Booklets about the church windows
- See the Colour of the Tyneside Scottish 4th Battalion, of which the church is Custodian, our fine war memorial by Walter Gilbert, and our WW1 and WW2 Memorial Book
